About us

Roland Imperial Tobacco Company limited (RITC) is a Zambian registered Company incorporated in 2001 to manufacture and trade in tobacco and its related products. Roland Imperial Tobacco Company is a 100% Zambian owned investment company.RITC is the first independent Zambian cigarette company to break the monopoly created on the Zambian market and is steadily establishing itself as a rising competitor on the local market.

The shareholders and/or Directors of the company are Zambians with over four decades experience in tobacco processing, trading and cigarette manufacturing industry. Roland has entered into a Joint Venture with a foreign based Cigarette Manufacturing company known as SAVANNA INVESTMENTS to jointly set up a manufacturing plant to manufacture and trade in cigarettes in Zambia . Savanna Investments is a multinational cigarette manufacturing company with factories in Zimbabwe and South Africa .

The Company produces the Pacific and Pegasus brands of cigarettes. The Pacific Virginia Cigarettes, both in regular and menthol are a product of this rich experience which starts with care of the tobacco leaf at farm level, well calculated and managed curing process, meticulous and careful blending with the finest blend of premium Tobaccos expertly made to the final production of a finest quality and excellent filter cigarette.

The Pacific Virginia Filter Cigarettes are finally being introduced on the market after a prolonged and successful testing resulting in a type of blend encompassing the demands of both modern day herein referred to as Adult Smokers Under 30 years (ASU 30) and Adult Smokers Above 30(ASA 30).The tests have shown that it is a winning blend giving very good value for money, exceptional quality, and is poised to command a larger share of the market within a short period of time.

However, Roland Imperial Tobacco Company has been on the market for approximately +/- 5 years. Its efforts were frustrated in its infancy by a multinational corporation which misled the government to believe it was going to continue local manufacturing of its cigarette blends despite our pleas to Government that the same was untrue. Through this, it was able to lobby government to raise duties on the other imported cigarettes to have its market share protected and created a monopoly for itself.

However, it was this company's ultimate goal to shut down local cigarette production and turn Zambia into a trading house. It is the objective of Roland Imperial Tobacco Company Ltd to produce cigarettes in Zambia, taking advantage of the increased production of tobacco, local expertise in production of cigarettes and the tobacco processing to seal the vacuum created by the closure of the only cigarette manufacturing plant in Zambia.Currently, the Pacific Toasted, Virginia and the Menthol tipped cigarettes are under toll production from COMESA member state whilst the Zambian factory is being established.

All above, including additional brands of cigarettes will be introduced onto the market over time, including the manufacture of other popular foreign brands under licence to cater for all tastes and give the Zambian customer a wider range of choice. The company is currently working on its Zambian market with the taste analysis of cigarettes so as to match client's specifications, including matching taste and flavor and facilitate the development of design and art work for the brands according to customer requirements.

This growth in value brand sector of the market is not confined to Zambia or the immediate region, but its Roland's vision to extend its operation throughout the world. Thus there is an opportunity for an independent producer to exploit not only the immediate market but the world over with a quality and right priced cigarettes.

It is now with great pleasure that we introduce ourselves and invite the necessary and all interested parties to the Roland Imperial Tobacco success story.
